Anybody know why the crew working Cal - Oregon State are wearing light blue half-sleeves on their right forearms? They almost look like phiten sleeves, maybe some sort of prostate cancer awareness thing?

Michigan got off to a 4-0 start, after a lucky break to beat Notre Dame, and one of the worst calls of the season to beat Indiana. They have now lost 5 of their last 6, with the win being over Delaware State.
Are their games against Wisconsin and OSU going to serve as the RichRod Farewell Tour?

OK, I know you guys get tired of hearing me make fun of Michigan, and I've tried to tone it down a little for your benefit. But I have to ask, have you ever seen a more Keystone Kops ending than Michigan-Purdue just then? I say this as objectively as possible. That was...interesting.

I just saw a headline on ESPN about the Grambling band and it started a train of thought that led to this question: Is it just me, or does college football seem to have gotten smaller recently? You'd think the opposite would happen, with the increased media coverage, scholarship limits, and everything else that's supposedly contributing to parity. But where's Grambling? Yeah, it's a small 1-AA HBCU school that not very many people care about. Yet I remember watching the Grambling-Southern game every year in the early 90s, and it had to be on one of the big three networks because my dad didn't get cable until like 1999 (don't ask). Harvard-Yale was on network TV too. I remember Gordie Lockbaum and Sacred Heart being a big deal in the late 80s. Ty Detmer and Andre Ware won Heismans; BYU won a national championship. Now it's a big deal if a player from a mid-major even gets invited to New York. Service academies and the old WAC also seemed more prominent. Did I live in an alternate universe where I just paid more attention to small-college football or something?

Why are we so passively tolerant of our fellow citizen's shenanigans?
Picture some undergrad who has long hair and hasn't shaved in weeks, playing badly on his guitar "Stairway to Heaven* somewhere on campus, creating nothing but grating noise because every note it out of tune, and distracting everyone who's just trying to get to class and pass their midterms.
Why do we tolerate such behavior? It's clearly detrimental to public health, and disrupts the general harmony of society. Maybe we believe too much in individual freedom. Maybe it's time to reign back in some of these freedoms.

My immediate thought after the USC/Oregon game was this: "Now I know what it's like to be a fan of any other college football team."
It doesn't make last night's game any less horrible, and it's not making excuses, but it's really something that Carroll-led Trojans had gone 8 seasons without losing by more than two scores. Without looking it up, I'd feel pretty safe saying every other team in college football has lost by more than two scores at least once in that timespan, and maybe they even all lost by 27 or more. It was bound to happen to the Trojans eventually, and boy did it.
The last three games have shown that the defense is mediocre at best, its stats boosted by playing vanilla offenses. The offense is pretty good and getting better.
I think USC has a good chance to win the rest of its games, depending on its bowl opponent. And considering how young much of the team is, the next two years should be pretty good.

Hello, everyone! I'm looking for some advice for all of the lovely pre-med students out there:
I'm planning my schedule for the next semester (and beyond), with an intention to study abroad for either spring or fall semester, probably in junior year. Has anyone already done this, or are there a few among us who are also planning this? I'm just wondering how other people have managed to balance pre-med requirements with a semester abroad, during which requirements usually can't be fulfilled.
Any advice/info is welcome! Thanks!

What the balls is up with those refs?! SRSSLY?
I'm glad the Gophers pulled this out.. but I would much rather the refs let the kids play and see what happens instead of jerking everyone around.
Anyone else see this game? I was there, and my voice is done.

My initial question was "why are ND and Wazoo playing in San Antonio" but I looked about midway down this page and see that this is the first in a series of "home games played outside South Bend." WTF? How flippin' cocky can you be to mandate that your neutral site games be "home games," complete with sideline decorations, etc. It's not like I needed another reason to hate Notre Dame, but this is just absurd.

Duders, are you watching this Illinois-Michigan game? I turned the game on to see Tate Forcier throw a 75-yard pass that looked like it was going for a TD that would increase Michigan's lead to 19-7, only to be caught from behind at the 1. The Illinois defense then stopped Michigan four times from the 1. The Illinois offense took over and went 99 yards for the score, then added two more on their next two possessions. Michigan looked like they were going to answer, getting a 1st-and-goal from the 10, but Illinois forced a fumble and is now driving 80-some yards inside the 5. This is incredible. I've never seen a momentum shift like this.

Woke up at 6:30 am here in Melbourne Australia to watch the Florida/Georgia game and it has been worth it so far: in the first half, Tim Tebow has broken former Georgia RB and Heisman winner Herschel Walker's SEC rushing TD record. And our kicker steamed in a 56-yard FG for a personal best.
My favorite thing so far, though, was Urban Meyer's answer to the sideline interview right after the half was called, when the reporter asked him whether he really thought kicker Caleb Sturgis could make the 56-yard field goal: "I wouldn't have called it otherwise." I hate these blatantly obvious sideline interviews. Waste of everyone's time.
Go Gators!

algorithms class question (again)

hi! i'm back, since the people here were so helpful last time. sorry to spam with my questions :(
i'm thinking of taking an algorithms course at berkeley city college over the summer instead, since i think i will need the knowledge sooner than i can take the prerequisites for cs170, even though many of you said that the material from cs61B that carried over to cs170 was stuff i could pick up without actually taking cs61b. since i have never done any java or any of the cs61 sequence before, i figure that that probably won't be the case for me. also, taking cs61a so that i can take cs61b...so that i can take cs170 is definitely overkill and i'll be learning much more than i will actually need.
the algorithms course at berkeley city college lists a programming course in C as a prerequisite. i know a lot of people have self-taught themselves C, and i'm wondering if any of you have done this and how to go about doing it?
thanks so much for the help! :)

I was wondering if anyone had electronic copies of their notes that they would feel comfortable sharing. I am way behind on the class and don't have complete notes for most of the lectures. I actually added the class late and was embarrassed to ask for help then, but now the situation is truly dire. I know it's my own damn fault, but if anyone out there has their notes in electronic form I would be so grateful for the help. If there is anyone who has taken the class in the past and has notes, that would also help. I had a really terrible time with the midterm and realize that if I want to pass I need to catch up!! Thanks in advance!
